Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations indicate the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
An important representative commented the attack rendered him without words and required to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
