Diving into a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have found a variety of entertaining creations from small studios. Yet, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure features a hero that is literally a piece of poop trying to make its way to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" translates to "poop."
Player controls is simple: you only need a jump control. Across numerous challenges, battle boss fights and access a store to purchase skins for your fecal avatar.
Execute your movements precisely, since one wrong move means beginning again. Leap off bubbles to hurl the poop to new heights, traverse crumbling platforms, and activate buttons to reveal new areas. Gather currency to purchase tougher levels in which gameplay ramps up.
Visually, the demo boasts eye-catching environments and catchy soundtrack. Its minimalist visual style of shifting abstract forms evokes memories of gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.
While it's hard to recall other games where you play as a piece of feces, gaming have long incorporated toilet humor. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can create explosives from protagonist excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, such content appears extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its silly concept, Unko Technica has already earned significant recognition, including taking top honors at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is ready at present on Steam, with the complete version planned to arrive on PC in the fall.
