Hodgkinson recorded her personal best of 1:54.61 last year in the British capital.

The Olympic champion concluded her two-lap campaign with a triumph at the women-only Athlos event in NYC on Friday evening.

{The reigning Olympic champion, who earned bronze at the global championships recently, excelled in an outstanding victory in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a year impacted by a muscle issue.

Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell finished second again in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) secured third place.

"I haven't competed much this season so it was probably easier for me to go out there and want to give it something," said the 23-year-old.

"The environment out there is incredible so it was really, really fun."

The women-only event packed the stadium in its second year, bringing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis O., was on hand to present the winners with their tiaras.

Previous champions took home sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in athletics.

The competition also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith Kipyegon won the mile, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.

American Brittany B., the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, secured the sprint double.
