The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Developer to Boost Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Shift Comes After Mixed Reception

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster early showing last fall.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified staff about this decision through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had indicated the need for a distinct vision.

The president noted that the team is now reimagining the project with a renewed focus, aiming to satisfy player expectations.

Trend of Key Acquisitions

This announcement follows a similar move taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.

Here is the entire content from Ismailer's memo:

Team—

I know you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a update, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and creative developers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to persist.”

With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It uncovered the necessity for a clearer brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the input to heart and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed goal - one that’s poised to deliver on its promise to our players.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Director of 31st Union. Following a period of conversations, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.

Ben’s guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having spent the last 15 years producing and managing some of the most recognizable series in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in greeting Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to continue observing the development of Project ETHOS in the time to ahead.

David
